How Long Does It Take to Build a Home?

There is really no “one size fits all” answer to this question. Every project is different because of the various projects, builders, customers, manufacturers, subcontractors, etc.

Also, if there is one thing about construction that you should know, it is this: no project will ever go exactly according to plan. There are too many factors that cannot be controlled when it comes to construction including: the weather, unexpected delays, life events, design issues, etc.

With that being said, there are ways to estimate the time length of a project.

One idea that CCH is considering implementing is a visual schedule. This printable schedule will include all tasks and their corresponding dates in chronological order. We want to start using this in order to make the building process even easier on you, the customer. However, until then we will just be able to give a rough idea of project duration.

If you want us to give you a very vague timeline of how long a house, add-on, or commercial project might take to build if you base it off of the square footage, then check out the table below:

Square Feet Time
100-500 1 month
501-1,500 3-4 months
1,501-5,000 4-7 months
5,001-10,000 8-12 months

Granted, these are really just vague numbers. These numbers do not include some major details such as: specific materials with lengthy lead times, scheduling coordination, and finishes that could delay the project further.

However, vague numbers are better than having nothing at all. At Copeland Custom Homes, we want you to be able to have a rough idea of how it long it will take. If you are looking to build soon, be sure to contact us to get an idea of how long it will take!
