What Should I Ask a Potential Custom Home Builder?
Copeland Custom Homes has been building a reputation around Mobile and Baldwin County for the past 18 years, and one of our primary focuses has been on integrity and honesty. We provide these through openness with our customers are our diligence in completing our work. If there is an issue with the job site, then we are sure to let our customers know.

However, there are other questions and answers that should be addressed before you should decide on a particular homebuilder. Some particular questions that you should ask include the following:
- How many years have you been in business? How many homes have you built?
Copeland Custom Homes was founded in 1999 and we have built roughly 200+ homes over the past 18 years.
- Are you licensed and insured in the state that I am building in?
CCH is licensed and insured to build in the state of Alabama.
- Can I have a preference on the subcontractors that are going to be building the home?
We always try to use the best in the business when we build any home. However, if a customer wants us to use a particular company for some aspect of the work, then we are definitely open to consider it.
- How do you handle changes in the original plans of the project?
CCH works with the customer to make changes as smooth as possible.
- How long will my home take to complete?
This varies on each project, but be sure to take note if their time frame seems a little lengthy or even a little too short.
- How often should I expect updates on the job from you? How available are you for meeting during the duration of the project?
If you build with CCH, then you will have access to Rick’s personal cell phone and email address. Therefore, we will be available at most times throughout the day and will attempt to meet you whenever and wherever you want to.
- Is it a problem if I am on the job site frequently?
Absolutely not. CCH encourages all home owners to visit the jobsite as often as they would like.
- Do you finance the construction or do I need to secure a construction loan?
CCH prefers that the customer secures a construction loan.
- Do you do a punch-list walk through?
CCH does a final walk through with every owner in order to ensure that all issues are addressed before closeout. After the job has been completed, any additional punch-list items in the project will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- What type of warranty do you offer?
CCH provides a standard one year builder’s warranty.
Be sure to include these questions whenever you interview a homebuilder and it will help to ensure that you are paired up with the best contractor to fit your current needs.
